Real Work, Real Growth: My Internship Story at Milliner

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a Recruiting & Marketing Intern at Milliner Talent Solutions, a firm recognized for its dynamic approach to talent acquisition and its commitment to building strong employer relations. From the moment I joined the team, I was welcomed into a fast-paced, collaborative environment that encouraged positivity, ownership, and professional growth.

The Hiring Process:

The hiring process itself gave me a first impression of Milliner’s professionalism and people-first approach. Even before my first day, Milliner’s culture was evident. The interview process was seamless, starting with a virtual interview that felt more like a dialogue than a formal Q&A. My manager, Johnny Slivka, showed genuine interest in learning about my background, goals, and where I could add value. The in-person interview that followed gave me the chance to meet the entire team, offering an early look into the transparency and encouragement that define daily life at Milliner. That level of authenticity left a lasting impression and signaled that I was joining a company that truly lives its values.

The Value of an Internship:

This internship wasn’t just a resume booster; it was a chance to bridge classroom concepts from Indiana University with real-world application. I deepened my understanding of both recruiting and marketing and saw firsthand how the two intersect in employer branding and talent outreach. More importantly, I learned how to navigate a professional setting, identify my strengths, and adapt in a constantly evolving space. Internships like this one aren’t just about gaining experience; they’re about discovering where you thrive. This experience helped solidify my interest in the talent space, and it offered a clearer picture of what it’s like to work in a professional setting where strategy, communication, and innovation are central to everyday success.

A Day in the Life:

Each day at Milliner offered a balance of structure and variety that kept things engaging and purposeful. My mornings often began with marketing efforts or data entry within our applicant tracking system, helping to maintain accuracy in our pipeline and support ongoing candidate searches. I contributed to outbound outreach through cold calling and LinkedIn messaging, which sharpened my communication skills and taught me the value of personalization and persistence. I had the opportunity to sit in on candidate interviews, gaining exposure to the nuances of vetting talent and understanding cultural fit. I also took on independent projects related to employer branding, marketing strategy, and process improvement – always with the support and guidance of the team. Whether I was drafting ideas, researching market trends, or participating in team meetings, I always felt like a valued contributor.

My time at Milliner was defined by growth – professional, personal, and everything in between. I’m incredibly grateful to the entire Milliner team for their support, mentorship, and willingness to involve me in real work that made a difference. I leave this internship with more confidence, a clearer direction, and a deeper appreciation for the recruiting and marketing space.
