There’s a lot to a name. After 17 successful years in the recruitment industry, we’ve changed ours from Milliner & Associates to Milliner Talent Solutions. This wasn’t a rash decision but rather the result of a lengthy, somewhat eye-opening process. In this Q&A, founder and leader, Rich Milliner provides all the details.
Q. What made you take another look at the Milliner & Associate’s name?
A. This firm’s been my life’s work. Honestly speaking, other than receiving some nice awards and recognition, I’ve always gauged our achievements on growth. As a business owner, you sometimes find yourself so heads down you forget to look up and see your overall impact. But last year, I really wanted to understand others’ perceptions of our firm. Why do they work with us, and what recommendations do they have to make the overall experience better?
We conducted an anonymous survey, sent it to clients and candidates, and asked for the good, the bad, and the ugly of the recruiting industry as a whole and our firm in particular. The responses were eye-opening, for sure.
Q. What did you learn about your firm through the process?
A. The survey helped us really see what we’ve accomplished. Over the years, our team has created a brand that’s synonymous with trust, quality of service, and relationship value. Those may seem like catchy buzzwords to most, but they are the backbone of our firm, and in this business, you either have it or you don’t. We have lots to work on, but I believe our team has achieved something special, and it continues to drive us forward.
In addition, we found that our existing clients and candidates often refer to us as “Milliner.” Which isn’t inherently a bad thing…I’ve always said, ‘I don’t care what you call us, just as long as you call.’ It did, however, bring to light that our old name didn’t clearly communicate what we offer and deliver.
Q. How does the name ‘Milliner Talent Solutions’ better inform candidates and companies?
A. For starters, we don’t sound like a law firm anymore. In all seriousness, adding Talent Solutions to our name encapsulates who we are and what we do. It builds on our legacy of trust, expertise, and a highly relational approach. Whether you’re a company looking to hire talent or an individual trying to bring your talent to the forefront, we provide a very real and uniquely personal solution.
Q. Does a new name signal other changes?
A. In addition to our new name, look for a new logo, a new visual brand, and a new website with more robust resources and information.
